yoga to boost your metabolismIt’s hard to believe that something like yoga could be useful if you want to boost your metabolism. After all, when we think of blasting through calories and burning through body fat, it’s usually cardio that comes to mind.  That said, for those of us who want to get even more out of those power walks, spin classes or early morning runs – or whatever else we happen to be doing throughout the day – the right yoga poses can help to make even more of a difference.

How to Boost Your Metabolism with Yoga

To begin, it’s important to note that while these yoga poses can help to boost your metabolism, these alone will not turn your body into a calorie torching machine. They’re meant to help support the other efforts you’re making to achieve your weight goal, from nutrition to exercise, and from good sleep to metabolic support supplements.

You might not find that you’ll get great results on the bathroom scale if all you’re doing to lose weight is a few yoga poses. However, if you combine these asanas with other healthy parts of your lifestyle, they can complement each other, and you’ll get more from everything you do.

Try These Yoga Poses to Boost Your Metabolism Starting Today

These three yoga poses are great for firing up the body to give a boost to your metabolism.  When you’re already eating right and doing other physical activities throughout the week, this added step can support your efforts to lose weight. You’ll be surprised at the difference in the way you feel too!

Get started with the following three poses.  From there, you can decide if you want to boost your metabolism with even more yoga poses.

1 – Chair Pose

This pose doesn’t look like much more than an angled crouch with your arms straight out and palms facing down. That said, after you hold it for a few moments, you start to see how your muscles and body are firing up a little. Don’t forget to breathe, keep your spine long and your gaze neutral. Relaxing into this position is a powerful way to stimulate that metabolic rate.

2 – Locust Pose

Lie on your front, so you’re face-down with your arms resting at your sides. Your forehead should be resting on your mat. Breathe in then, with your big toes turned toward each other, exhale and lift your arms, legs, head and even your upper body up off the floor. Maintain this balance with a strong core. Looking forward with a neutral gaze, hold this pose and feel the way it will boost your metabolism as your entire body comes alive.

3 – Bridge Pose

This is quite an unassuming pose. As you lie on your back with your feet planted on the ground and your spine lifted up off the floor, be sure to press your arms and shoulders firmly into the mat.  Feel solid like a well-constructed bridge and breathe as it energizes each cell throughout your body.
